Keep Your Eyes on the Prize
The constant barrage of bad news makes me wonder which way our nation is going to go. There are so many devastating things happening in the United States and to our society that I question which direction are we going? Are we moving forward, backward, up or down? Whenever I ask this very same question in my own life I tend to remember World War II Gen. George Patton’s very simple formula. Gen. Patton is the one who said, “Forward, forward always forward.” He said we are to never go back, never give up and we are certainly never to surrender.
We have just begun 2009 so I challenge you to begin today to continue to move forward, always forward, never look behind and certainly never give up. You can draw ever closer to God this year by simply keeping your eyes fixed upon the prize, which is our hope of eternity with our Lord.
Despite the lagging economy, we at Rivers of the World (ROW) are continuing to move forward carrying out the work for which God has called us throughout remote areas of the world.
After recognizing that he was on the wrong path, Paul had a tremendous conversion experience and soon after followed Christ with every fiber of his being. He pressed on and always moved forward carrying out the work God called him to do. Paul states in Philippians 3:12-14:
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Our complete perfection will come when we meet Jesus face to face. In the meantime, we must strive to perfect our thinking and our ways to be more like Christ. Regardless of what you’ve done in the past, if you have honestly confessed those sins and repented, then it is time to move forward and accomplish the great and mighty work the Lord has for you to do for the rest of your life.
