Let the Spirit Be Your Compass
With unemployment rates rising, foreclosures increasing and uncertainty permeating every aspect of our lives, do you find yourself asking, “What if?”
When I begin to feel myself thinking “what if” it makes me so grateful that I know how to hunt, fish and survive in the woods. That may sound silly because certainly we will never get to that point here in America. However, I never thought our country would ever get to where it is today. So, I am thankful that I am prepared for whatever may occur on the horizon.
One of the skills I have learned is how to navigate using a compass. I have a collection of compasses and they mean the world to me. I have one compass that is as big as the end of your little finger. Think about that for a second. It is tiny but I can set that instrument on the ground or on a piece of wood and it will still point to North.
Have you ever considered the idea that the Holy Spirit is our compass? He directs us in the ways of God, guides us around obstacles and points us to the path of righteousness. Those who do not have a relationship with Christ may look at us and think the decisions we make are foolish. They may fail to understand the choices we make at times. We are told in 1 Corinthians 1:27:
“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”
More often than not, those who possess great intellectual ability, those who have tremendous wealth and those who have spent years creating strong and healthy bodies, are less likely to develop a dependence upon God. It is those who are considered average in every way possible and those who have reached a place of desperation in their lives who cling to Christ and discover that even in their weakness and in their lack, they possess much.
