Letter of Wisdom

[ 0 ] August 24, 2010 |

Every day you receive all sorts of e-mails from friends and family but how often do you get a real letter in the mail? I am doing something that I have not done in a long time. I’m writing a letter to my friend’s daughter.

When a child is born, I love to send them their very first letter to welcome them into the world. I wrote a letter to this couple’s son, Morgan, but somehow I failed to write a letter for their daughter, Ali. Now, 13 years later, I am catching up on that letter!

It has been a lot of fun thinking about all the things I want to tell Ali. If you had a chance to write a letter to a young person, what are some of the things you would say? Is there anything you would encourage them to do, to be or to think? How would you advise them to pray, to feel and to live? I would love to hear your opinions. Take a moment and drop me a letter. Okay, you can e-mail me your ideas!

As parents, we have a tremendous responsibility to pass on our faith in God. We cannot rely upon the church, neighbors, or relatives to instill in our children a deep abiding trust in our Lord and Savior. We read in Psalm 78:5-7:

“He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.”

How will our children be able to withstand the storms of life if they are not taught to put their hope, faith and trust in Jesus? Each day teach your child about Christ through your words, deeds and actions.
