Level Ground

[ 0 ] February 14, 2012 |

Okay, I confess, having patience has never been my greatest gift! When the Lord places a burden upon my heart, I want to complete the task He has given me and I want it done immediately!

Many of you have been following the ongoing saga of Rivers of the World’s (ROW) ship, the Mama Mickie, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Installing a new engine in this ship has been a never-ending task. It was difficult enough just getting the engine from France to the DRC. Then we found out that someone had cut the boat the wrong way, knocking a hole in our ship. The Mama Mickie then had to be plugged.

The next frustration came this past November when elections were held in the DRC. Widespread violence broke out, forcing us to have to relocate our ship to a nearby country. We placed the engine on top of a friend’s boat to keep it safe. Honestly, it has been one thing after another with this ship! I can happily report that struts were recently put on the Mama Mickie, which will protect the propeller from logs and debris often found in the Congo River. The next step will be to place the engine in the ship, finally!

The key to overcoming constant frustrations in our lives is to submit fully to the will of God. Let us pray today Psalm 143:10:

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”

Part of our impatience comes from us wanting things our way according to our timetable. When we present our prayers to God, we must trust and understand that He really does know what is best for us. When we relinquish control of our lives to God, we are assured to stay on level ground. We learn take frustrations in stride, to accept trials as opportunities for God’s glory to be manifested through us and we are better equipped at keeping our focus upon Christ and not our circumstances.
