Light of the World
You would have to travel 2,197 miles due southeast of my home in Georgia to get there. Where is there? It is a remote area of Venezuela where I traveled to in August. Check out the Rivers of the World (ROW) web site to see our pictures of the Orinoco Delta of Venezuela and the wonderful people and places we visited.
We traveled down the Manamo River to this finger lake. At the end of the finger lake, which seemed like the very edge of the world, we discovered one family who lives all by themselves. We climbed out of our boat, conducted a health survey to determine their needs and found one person who had a fever and another person with an itch. After the medical issues were addressed, I asked, “Can I pray with you?” The father looked at me and said, “Somebody just came by and told us about God. We believed, so, yes, you can pray.”
My thought was, “Who in the world was that person! I’d love to meet him.” Anybody who would travel that far to that remote jungle is my kind of friend. That person’s obedience to God has now brought forth light to this family in that dark jungle. We read in John 8:12:
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”
How about you, dear Christian? What has God called you to do or where has God sent you lately? I’d love to hear about it. Drop me a line and let me know what God has been doing in your life. Let me encourage you to take a step of faith and be the “light” in someone’s dark world today.
