Little Is Much in Him
It is the little things that mean so much, isn’t it? I am convinced that it is not the extravagant, grand efforts we make that are so compelling nor have the greatest impact. Instead, it is a kind touch, it is a pat on the back, a gentle word of encouragement, a “God bless you,” and a simple prayer said for a friend in need.
The little, seemingly unobtrusive acts we do usually have the greatest impact upon a person’s life. This was the case with Israel Gonzalez, who is a pastor up in Honduras. He works in 15 villages. While visiting with Israel, we stopped in a home that had 15 people living under one roof. We entered the home and there were four little children and a mother. Everyone else was out doing work.
Unexpectedly, Israel miraculously made ice cream appear. To see the looks on the faces of those young children for such a kind and small gesture reminded me that it really is the little things that produce lasting results.
Paul instructs us in Colossians 3:12:
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
Christian, let me encourage you to daily look for ways to bless someone with an act of compassion, with a kind gesture or with a gentle word. These may seem like little deeds, but when conducted in the spirit of Christ, the deeds are multiplied into wonderful blessings.
