Look After Orphans
Honestly, some things are just as plain as the nose on your face. One of the byproducts of the January earthquake in Haiti has been the creation of thousands of orphans. Rivers of the World (ROW) is doing its part in alleviating some of the orphan problem by constructing an orphanage in the nearby Dominican Republic.
As soon as we can obtain the estimated $25,000 for a roof for this orphanage, we’ll be able to house over 100 children. If you have a church or civic group that would like to travel to the Dominican Republic and assist with the construction of this orphanage or if you would just like to contribute financially to help these children, contact me at ben@row.org.
These children have experienced some horrendous things over the last several months and they are in desperate need of a clean, healthy and stable environment. Everybody is able to do something to help over 100 children make their way to their new home, even if it is simply praying for their protection, provision and completion of this orphanage.
There are many ways that we can demonstrate our love for God. We are reminded though in James 1:27 about the two groups of people Christians should go out of their way to serve:
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
You have an opportunity to put this Scripture into practice by helping the orphans of Haiti. When we serve others by meeting their very basic needs, such as food and housing, we show them a glimpse of Christ’s love and thereby plant a seed, which later may grow into them accepting Jesus as their Savior.
