Magnify His Name
If there is one thing that I know, it is that our Lord has a sense of humor and loves it when we are thankful. It has been raining here in Dixie for quite awhile so most days you don’t really need a pair of sunglasses. I was driving across Georgia during a thunderstorm when all of a sudden the clouds began to part and the sun began to shine. That was fine but I couldn’t find my sunglasses!
I’m driving and frantically looking everywhere in my vehicle and the more I looked the more I began getting all bent out of shape. I finally stopped and said, “You know, Lord, me getting all upset is silly. I thank you for the sunshine and for the rain. You are making the crops grow with all the rain we’ve had and that is a blessing. But, I need my sunglasses!”
You might have thought that I hit a bump in the road because all of a sudden my sunglasses flew out from underneath the front seat! I found my sunglasses and immediately gave praise to Jesus! Now some of you might think that is just plain silly but I know that the God we serve loves to hear our praises. He has quite a sense of humor and He will provide for us if we are just thankful, in the little things and the big things.
All throughout Psalms David gives praise to God through singing, music and other means. He proclaims to others God’s mighty deeds, deliverance, miracles and provision. We read in Psalm 105:1-2:
“Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.”
How will non-Christians see Christ in us unless we are praising God through difficult times, we are giving thanks to God for answered prayers and we are worshipping God simply for who He is?
