Nearness of God

[ 0 ] December 24, 2009 |

There is a very special group of people that I want to talk to today. Your children may be grown and gone and because you live miles apart you are unable to get together for Christmas. Perhaps you have lost a spouse for one reason or another, or you just don’t have a spouse. You may even be at a place in your life where your pets are no longer around. It is the Christmas season and it may be a bit difficult for you.

Here is what I want all of us to do. If you are alone this Christmas, I want you to remember that you may be physically by yourself but you are never alone. Remember too that the Lord loves you, cherishes you and He was born out of love for you.

All of us who are by ourselves are going to join in prayer on Christmas morning and pray for each other. When you wake up tomorrow on Christmas day, after you have had that cup of coffee or tea, I want you to take a minute and pray for those who are without family and friends this Christmas. Let’s use prayer as a way to encourage each other through this Christmas season.

All throughout scripture you find God caring for those who are orphaned, widowed or simply cast out from society. In Psalm 68:6(a) we read:

“God sets the lonely in families.”

God in His vast love for His people ensures that we are never alone. Sometimes it may take a little effort on our part to connect with others. We all have someone in our lives, whether it is our church family, fellow students at school, co-workers or next-door neighbors. I encourage you not to sit at home alone this Christmas. If nobody has contacted you then take the initiative to reach out to someone and share the joy and blessings of Christmas.
