No Excuses

[ 0 ] June 30, 2011 |

Have you ever heard Christians use these excuses for not serving the Lord, “I would help, but, now that I am a senior citizen, I really don’t think there is much I can do.” Or, “I’m just a teenager, what could I possibly do for Christ?” And, “Oh, I really don’t have any talents or skills so surely there wouldn’t be anything I could do to help.”

Since God created all mankind in His image and He placed His character within each of us, that means we all have been given unique gifts and talents. We are instructed in 1 Peter 4:10:

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”

A faithful supporter of Rivers of the World (ROW), Charles Johnson, let us know recently about a wonderful lady in his church, Northwood Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, Texas. Charles and his wife, Melissa, became involved with ROW over two years ago and in the fall of 2009, Charles joined other team members for a mission trip to Vietnam.

As that trip was being planned, Louise Young came alongside and began crocheting caps for orphans in Vietnam. These wonderful caps were given to the children during the 2009 and 2010 trips to Vietnam. For 18 months, planning has been under way at Northwood for a mission trip with ROW to Peru. Nearly a dozen folks will be departing on July 9 for a trip of a lifetime along the Amazon River. Although Louise won’t be joining the team from the church, she has faithfully been busy crocheting caps for children in Peru.

For over a year, various fundraisers have been held. The team had the idea for a Knit Cap-A-Thon to raise money for the trip. Pledge sheets were placed all over the church, Louise got busy crocheting over 150 caps and $2,500 was raised.

The next time you even think about making some excuse as to why you cannot serve the Lord in some capacity, I want you to remember Louise. Ask the Lord to reveal to you the unique talents He has placed within you and then get out there and serve and bring honor and glory to Him.
