No Surprise
Talk about a small world! I was in Punta Gorda, Belize with students from Hampden-Sydney College when my plans suddenly changed. We were building a maternity wing onto the local hospital and were cutting rebar, which is steel used in construction, when a piece of rebar snapped backed and impaled my arm.
The college students quickly gathered around me and then rushed me into the emergency room. That’s when the incredible began. The doctor and nurse were from Nigeria and I was able to say a few words in their language. We had the best time as they were sewing up my arm! What are the chances of a guy from Georgia traveling to Belize and coming across a doctor and nurse from Nigeria and being able to have a conversation with them!
Don’t you just love it when the Lord orchestrates events in your life in such a way that you are reminded once again that He is indeed in control of all things.
After being distressed by seeing all the idols in Athens, Paul spoke to the Jews in the synagogue, telling them about the living God who created all things. In Acts 17:26 we read:
“From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.”
Nothing surprises God. Earthquakes, economic disasters and personal tragedies don’t catch God off guard. If we trust God then why is it that we are often overcome with stress from the troubles in our lives and of this world? We fail to fully understand that God is in control of our life, of the planets, of the future times and everything imaginable. Let me encourage you to spend more time enjoying the journey and less time being tripped up over the daily cares of our lives.
