Nothing Without Love

[ 0 ] February 27, 2009 |

Have you ever imagined what hope would sound like if you could hear it? I was recently in La Pita, Honduras and what I heard around me was the personification of hope. We drove way up this mountain to get to a particular village. When we arrived at the village we began distributing two of our favorite things, educational packets and knitted caps.

Precious children surrounded us at every turn as we handed out the Ziploc baggies filled with paper, pencils, crayons, sugarless gum and a Gospel tract, along with the knitted caps. Rivers of the World (ROW) has friends across the country who knit baby and children’s caps. We take these caps and place them on the heads of babies and children all over the world.

As we equip children overseas with school supplies, a Gospel tract and knitted caps we hear the excitement and joy as hope blossoms from village to village. Would you like to hear what hope sounds like? Then consider joining ROW on one of our trips to Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Vietnam, the Congo or any other place we travel to around the globe.

God tells us in Proverbs 19:17:

“He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done.”

What is not mentioned in this scripture is the motivation of our hearts. Helping those in need merely out of obligation or duty is in vain. The key to ministering to others is found in 1 Corinthians 13:3 (Amplified):

“Even if I dole out all that I have [to the poor in providing] food, and if I surrender my body to be burned or in order that I may glory, but have not love (God’s love in me), I gain nothing.”

Make a decision today to love everyone you come in contact with throughout this day as if you were demonstrating love directly to Jesus. The ways in which you treat people are the very ways in which you treat Jesus Christ.
