Obedient Servant

[ 0 ] September 18, 2009 |

Did I tell you that one of my sons got married recently? It was quite a remarkable sight. Nine Marine captains and one Marine major, all in their dress blue uniforms adorned with all their medals, came marching into the church. After escorting the ladies to their seats, the Marines continued to march right down the center aisle.

They marched into their pews, arranged their swords and then their commanding officer said one word, “Sit.” All the Marines in unison sat down. I just couldn’t help but think, “Lord, don’t you wish your children would behave that way? Don’t you just wish that you could look at us and say, ‘sit, stand, be still, kneel, pray, give, love, go and we would?’”

Unfortunately, a majority of us are not like those Marines who were so incredibly obedient. Thank goodness there is grace! Today let me encourage you to celebrate the grace of God in your life. When God tells us to sit, sometimes we stand, when He tells us to go, sometimes we stay, but He loves us anyways.

We get a glimpse in Romans 5:19 of how through one man’s disobedience all have suffered the consequences for generations. It says:

“For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.”

Aren’t you just overwhelmed with praise to God that Christ was obedient and fulfilled His divine purpose on the cross? We cannot expect to achieve this level of obedience here on earth but through the Holy Spirit’s power that dwells within us, we can be obedient to Christ.
