One Day Closer
Do you know what day it is? Oh, I don’t mean Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or such. I mean do you understand what day this is, today. On this day you are one day closer to landing that job you have prayed for, you are one day closer to achieving your goal of losing weight, you are one day closer to beating that addiction and you are one day closer to spending eternity with Christ and finally being at peace.
I want you to take a moment and really ponder what I am saying. As each day dawns we are that much closer to either experiencing the return of Christ here on earth or we are one day closer to seeing him face to face in heaven. Either way, what a tremendous joy that should be to every Christian!
We have so many decisions that we must make in the course of a day but ultimately the most important choice we make begins the moment we open our eyes to begin our day. We can look at our lives and exclaim, “Oh, my life is just awful. How on earth am I going to make it through another day?” Or, we can arise each day and proclaim, “Despite my circumstances, I am one day closer to having everything the way the Lord wants it to be in my life and because of that I am going to rejoice about everything.”
Do you want to know what our reaction should be when difficult times come our way? Read Habakkuk 3:17-18:
“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.”
In modern terms, though my car needs repairs that I cannot afford, though my children seem to have forgotten their Creator, though I am persecuted for my faith relentlessly at work and though problems seem to be piling up on me to the point where I feel like I am suffocating, yet will I praise God, if for no other reason than because He saved my soul.
Now, as you begin each day, try reciting Psalm 118:24 (NKJV):
“This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
