Partnering in Prayer
You know, it seems to me that supporters of Rivers of the World (ROW) have been praying for my family for years. I want all of you to know that I am so grateful for your faithful prayers, especially for my youngest son, Adam, who served three tours in Iraq in the Marine Corps.
Some of you may remember that I was actually embedded with Adam in Haditha, located northwest of Baghdad. That experience was life changing for me and for all those who saw the pictures, video and watched the events unfold on television.
Thankfully, Adam is no longer in harms way. In fact, I have a big announcement to make, which by now you may have already heard. Capt. Adam Mathes recently married the former Sarah Wood in a beautiful wedding ceremony held in North Carolina. After the honeymoon, they departed for parts unknown around the world.
I want to thank you for all your prayers, support and love for this young couple and ask that you continue to keep them in your prayers as they embark upon a new life together as a married couple. I say to you the same thing that the Apostle Paul said to the Christians at Philippi, as recorded in Philippians 1:3:
“I thank my God every time I remember you.”
Each of us should consider it a privilege to pray for one another. In 1 Timothy 2:1 Paul instructs the church on worship by stating:
“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone.”
The key word is “everyone.” We should regularly pray not only for family, friends and our church, but also for those in authority over us, our government, world governments and various other leaders. Even though we serve an all-knowing God, He still expects us to come before Him and present our petitions to Him. Let’s take this seriously and put it into practice each day.
