Peace Like a River

[ 0 ] October 26, 2009 |

Be honest, what do you normally do when God tells you to do something that you really do not want to do? If you desire to remain in His will then it would be in your best interest to be obedient to His leading. Our ministry at Rivers of the World (ROW) is centered along rivers, often located deep within jungles.

All of a sudden the Lord has given ROW an opportunity to plant a church in Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Granted, the Congo River is nearby, but Kinshasa is not a jungle or a remote village area. It is a teeming metropolitan area with over 8 million people.

ROW Congo Program Director Omba Ngandu feels led by God to preach the gospel in Kinshasa. We estimate building a church in this city will cost $25,000. We could sure use your help, hint, hint! We need all kinds of support for this project, including those willing to dedicate time in prayer, generous financial gifts from individuals and even those who feel led to travel to Kinshasa to help us build the church.

We are going to respond to God directing us to build a church in Kinshasa because there are so many people in that part of the world who need the love of Jesus and need to hear the life-saving gospel. Frankly, we cannot do anything less than faithfully and obediently respond to God’s call.

Numerous times throughout scripture we discover the consequences of the children of Israel’s disobedience to God’s instructions. We have a promise from God that if we simply follow Him we will be blessed with peace like a river. Read Isaiah 48:17-18:

“This is what the LORD says-your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go. If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea.’”

Remember, taking a step of faith often requires more than simply praying and trusting God to answer. Faith requires action on our part by being obedient to the Holy Spirit’s leading.
