Preparing For a Harvest
Okay, bear with me while I envision a scene from heaven. The Lord wanted to see how we were doing here on earth so He sent an angel down to conduct a little survey. When the survey was completed, the angel returned to heaven, reported to God and said, “You know things are not so hot. We’ve got about 95 percent of the population who are misbehaving and only 5 percent who are hanging in there with us.”
As you can imagine, that really upset the Lord, who sent another angel down to further check out the situation. This angel also returned to heaven and gave the same report by saying, “Yea, I’ve got to tell you it’s not so hot—95 percent of the people have strayed away and we’ve got only 5 percent hanging in there with us.”
After much thought, the Lord said, “You know, I’ve got to do something. I think I’ll send an e-mail to the faithful 5 percent and do what I can to encourage them.” Do you know what that email said? Oh, well I was hoping you got it because I didn’t get it either! However, I do know some folks who did and they are people who put themselves in a position to respond to God’s will for their lives.
Exciting things can happen in your life if you intentionally place yourself in a position to hear from the Word of God. Do you recall the parable told by Jesus of the four soils? In explaining the parable to His disciples, Jesus said in Luke 8:11-15:
“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.”
Today, let me encourage everyone, not just those faithful few, to dig up any weeds in your life, destroy any thorns and delve deeper into the Word of God, which is the very nourishment that your spirit longs for. As the Word sinks deeper into your mind, heart and soul, you will then be able to cultivate a bountiful harvest of God’s blessings.
