Put Your Faith in Christ
I recently helped my friend, Rick, clean out his parent’s house in preparation for moving them to an assisted living facility where their lives will be a bit easier. I was up to my elbows in dust and old clothes when I heard Rick holler as if he was dying. I dropped everything and ran upstairs to find him lying on the floor laughing so hard that he was struggling to breathe.
When Rick was finally able to speak, he told me that he was cleaning out his mother’s closet, reached up into a box and an old fox stole somehow jumped out of the box and flew in face. When the hard nose of that stuffed fox popped Rick on the nose, he thought for a moment that it was a real rat. He fell backwards off the small ladder he was standing on, landed on his back and wrestled with the fox. Still thinking it was a rat, Rick threw the fox stole across the room. Suddenly he realized he had made a mistake and then Rick began laughing so hard he almost fainted!
I love changes that come our way in life because we never know what good things may jump out and surprise us. Life as a Christian is adventurous, risky, thrilling and non-stop wondering what may occur next. The key is to set our eyes upon Jesus and not our circumstances.
Thomas was one who struggled to believe that Christ had indeed risen from the dead and had appeared to the disciples. Thomas’ doubts disappeared when Christ appeared a second time to the disciples and Thomas was able to see the resurrected Lord in the flesh. In John 20:29 we read Jesus’ comment to Thomas:
“Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’”
Often our worries never materialize into reality. There are many times, too, that circumstances are not as they seem. No matter what happens in your life, put your faith in the never-changing, always faithful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
