Reason to Boast
Have I told you about Miss Angie’s bottom? Now that I have your attention, let me explain. Miss Angie Anderson is one of our ships. She was launched in 2003 on the Sankuru River in the middle of the Congo.
I recently learned that her hull, or bottom, is rotting out. Constant exposure to river water as she pushes up and down the Sankuru River has taken its toll upon our ship. We intend on fixing her up to extend her life. However, it will cost about $6,000 to build a new hull for Miss Angie. She is desperately needed by the people who live in 76 villages along the Sankuru River of the Congo.
In the meantime, we want to celebrate the fact that Miss Angie is not going gracefully into the night. She may be beat up, bruised and worn out, but we at Rivers of the World (ROW) are so very proud of her for her service to the Lord.
Dear Christian, today I want to encourage you to examine your life—in what do you boast? What are you proud of? Pride is not a sin if it is Christ in which we are boasting. Let us follow Paul’s example in Romans 15:17 (NASB), which says:
“Therefore in Christ Jesus I have found reason for boasting in things pertaining to God.”
The next time you receive a compliment for doing a good job at work, let others know it was Christ who gave you the creativity. When someone pats you on the back and praises you for your integrity and morals, quickly let them know as a Christian you strive daily to imitate the personality of Christ—in which all goodness is found.
