Rejoice!

[ 0 ] August 30, 2009 |

My calendar is cluttered with things to do, appointments, notes, etc. In many ways, my life is just like my calendar, quite the mess! Let me share with you a recent experience I had that brought into focus a very tangible Biblical lesson.

The icemaker in my freezer is not functioning properly so I decided to take out the ice tray thingy and place it on my washer machine. Shortly after that, I went on a trip. When I arrived back home I called a friend to catch up. While talking on the telephone I heard a loud noise from my freezer. It then dawned on me that I had been gone for five days and had taken out the ice bin from the freezer. I proceeded to open my freezer and it was full of ice! Here I am standing in front of my freezer, ice is all over my floor and I started laughing. My first thought was, “Okay, Lord, what can I possibly learn from this?”

I learned that my life is as scattered as the ice that fell on my kitchen floor and as cluttered as my calendar. I also realized that what I needed to do instead of fretting or worrying about things is to meditate upon Psalm 118:24, which says:

“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Let me encourage you today to take your focus off the scattered parts of your life and firmly fix your gaze upon Christ. No matter what is taking place in your life, start your day, every day, by praising God for giving you another day to worship Him, to enjoy His creation and to be a blessing unto others.
