Safe in His Arms

[ 0 ] April 4, 2008 |

This is certainly one of the darkest nights of my life. It is the night before the big test and before the fight begins. Tomorrow is the day that I find out if my dear wife, Mickie, has cancer. She is in the hospital recovering from surgery from an abdominal obstruction.

I am just fascinated with the thoughts and feelings that are going through my mind at this moment. I am also wondering how many of these “night’s before” we all will face in this lifetime. No matter how dark the night is right now and no matter what happens, I am resting upon what I do know. I know that His word tells us that joy comes in the morning and I know that the Lord will walk beside us regardless of what we may have to face. I also know that Mickie and I will gain strength from the Lord and from His people.

I am resting in the fact that Jesus has my wife in the palm of His hands. Knowing the Lord is in control of our lives should fill us with peace and hope despite our circumstances. I am also clinging to what one of my friends said, “Everything is going to be all right.”

How can I honestly know that everything is going to be all right? I merely have to read Psalm 91 to receive this comforting assurance. In particular, let me share with you Psalm 91:1 (NKJV):

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

Now read Psalm 91:4-6 (NKJV):

“He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.”

Even if our entire world is crumbling all around us we have a promise from God that He will protect us and He will sustain us. Whether we have fear of a dreaded disease, are afraid of what the future might hold or we are drowning in the cares of everyday life, we can find that peace in the midst of the storm by resting in His word.
