Seeing the Face of God
When you bought your groceries today, was the line long at the store? Did you get frustrated when you had to wait longer than 10 minutes? The time it took for you to shop for groceries and cook your meal was probably shorter than the wait most people had to endure in the line my friend saw at a feeding center overseas.
We live in an impatient society here in America where most people do not take the time to be generous or kind by allowing someone to take their place in line or by sharing God’s blessings with others.
The people my friend witnessed standing in the line at the feeding center were patiently waiting their turn to get something to eat. As the line dwindled, the last little girl finally made it to the front of the line only to receive one lone banana. Could you imagine being so hungry and only receiving a banana?
The little girl quietly took the banana and walked over to three other little children standing nearby. Very carefully, this little girl cut the banana into three equal pieces, giving a piece each to the two girls and one boy. It was then that my friend saw the face of God as the little girl contentedly licked the inside of the banana peel while the other three children savored their piece of banana.
When was the last time you sacrificed your time, money or possessions for another? God commanded us in Hebrews 13:16:
“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”
As Christians, we are to:
“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:1-2.
