Sharing the Burden
So many of Rivers of the World’s (ROW) faithful followers have been extremely kind recently and I want to thank all of you. We have been overwhelmed by expressions of love, prayer and concern for my wife, Mickie, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Mickie has since returned to her duties at the University of Qatar, located in the capital city of Doha in the Middle East. Those same expressions of love and kindness have been showered upon her in her home away from home. When Mickie returned to Doha the hotel sent a limo to pick her up and they took her to dinner. A chef from one of the restaurants actually left his restaurant and came to where Mickie was dining to personally fix Mickie her favorite dish, lobster bisque. She is being treated like a queen in Qatar.
On Sept. 11, 2008, Mickie started the first of several rounds of chemotherapy. It has been such a blessing with all the kind thoughts, prayers, suggestions and encouragement we have received. Fellow Christian, this is what serving the Lord is all about. I’m curious, if we will take the time to share love and kindness with people we’ve never met, than how much more love should we share with friends and family?
Stop and reflect today on how much Jesus Christ has done for you in your life. The most effective way we could ever show our gratefulness to Christ is by loving others. Paul even instructs us in Galatians 6:2:
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
The law of Christ states we must love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and mind and likewise we are to love our neighbors as ourselves. Every Christian will experience difficulties during their journey with Christ. We need to take the time to walk beside fellow Christians and share their burdens.
