Solid Foundation
They just absolutely floored me and knocked me off my feet! My buddies from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, led by Dean of Students Dr. David Klein, did an amazing job in fall 2008 in the Dominican Republic. Rivers of the World’s (ROW) work in the Dominican Republic in based in Barahona, located three hours southwest of Santo Domingo.
We focus on helping families in the bateys, poor villages of Haitian refugees. Under the watchful eyes of numerous children, the team from Hampden-Sydney College mixed and poured concrete for floors in 14 homes in about five days. Adding concrete floors to homes helps get families up out of the mud and dirt and decreases disease and insect issues. Providing a firm foundation to these poor families will actually change their lives and provide an open door for us to be able to share the love of Jesus Christ.
How about you, dear Christian? Have you built your life on the solid rock of Jesus Christ? If you have, then no matter how great the storm is raging in your life and regardless of the avalanche of sorrow and hurt you may be feeling, Christ will sustain you and He will be your anchor. Read Matthew 7:24-27 and claim this assurance:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Check the foundation of your life today to make sure you have built it upon the Rock and not upon the shifting sands of this world.
