Song of Hope

[ 0 ] March 28, 2008 |

If I asked you to stand up and sing a song, what song would come to mind? Would you sing a song you heard recently on the radio, a favorite hymn from church or a patriotic tune?

During my travels from remote jungle village to remote jungle village, country to country and around the world I have noticed that when I visit schools I always seem to ask the children to sing me a song. I love to videotape the children singing to capture the moment so I can listen to it later and see their precious faces as they sing.

What I find amazing is that all the children sing the same song whether I am visiting a school in the Congo, Peru or Brazil. Do you know what these children sing? These precious children sing their national anthem.

If I asked you today to sing a song to a stranger would you sing the Star Spangled Banner? This Fourth of July I hope when you hear that song that you will stand and proudly sing at the top of your lungs.

As Christians, we are encouraged to declare the wondrous glories of the Lord to all nations. We read in Psalm 96:1-3:

“Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.”

Each day that we awake is a new day for us to proclaim God’s goodness. Look around you today for reasons to tell others about the marvelous salvation you have experienced and how they too can experience God’s mercy and grace. Take time today to also sing praises to the Lord for all that He has done, all that He is doing, all that is to come, and most of all, simply for who He is.
