Spiritual Training
As we near the end of August and begin September, many of us are heading back to the mission field. This could be school, college, or for me, it is Southeast Asia.
Wherever you may be heading in the next month or so, it is time to get into shape physically and spiritually for the challenges that might lie ahead. I have a few exercises for you to try. Begin your day by spiritually stretching and lifting your hands to heaven and thanking the Lord for a wonderful day. I always tell the Lord, “Thank you for the rest of the night and for the rest of this day.”
After spending the first portion of your day with the Lord, it is now time to examine the food that you put into your body. I want you to really pause today and think about your diet. The foods you ingest will either make you strong and healthy or weak and unhealthy. The stronger you are physically, the better equipped you will be to serve Christ spiritually at school, on your college campus, at work or even with me overseas in Southeast Asia.
We are told in 1 Timothy 4:8 (Amplified):
“For physical training is of some value (useful for a little), but godliness (spiritual training) is useful and of value in everything and in every way, for it holds promise for the present life and also for the life which is to come.”
We must live our lives with balance—time exercising physically, mentally and spiritually. However, a greater portion of our lives must include spiritual training, which will sustain us in this life and will count for the greatest good in the life to come.
