Steadfast Love
I suppose I never really thought this was important, but apparently the 118th Psalm is considered the middle of the Bible. That piece of information isn’t significant but what is important is how this chapter begins and ends. In Psalm 118:1 (Amplified) we read:
“O GIVE thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!”
Look at verse 29 and you will read the same thing. My challenge to you today, and every day, is to begin and end the day by giving thanks to the Lord for His goodness, mercy, forgiveness and enduring love.
Now that you know how Psalm 118 begins and ends, take time to read the rest of this chapter. The author speaks of God’s protection, of taking refuge in God and finding strength and help in the Lord. Amidst persecution from his enemies, the author was able to proclaim, in verse 17 (NIV):
“I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done.”
In a simplified way, that is what salvation is all about. Jesus, the Son of the living God, came to earth as a man and He willingly and faithfully gave His life on the cross for us. Those of us who have accepted the gift of salvation should find it very easy to thank Christ for His sacrifice and for setting us free from our past and breaking the chains of sin that once ruled and reigned in our lives. The question we should ask ourselves each day is, “How can I live my life so that Jesus is glorified?”
