Steadfastly Flourishing
I am sure we all have family members who simply will not listen and it seems impossible to keep them in line. This applies to my family as well and his name is Dad!
My father is 85 years old and he decided recently that he was going to climb a ladder and spray paint a spot in the ceiling inside his garage. My mother arrived home, clicked the garage door opener and you can imagine the rest of the story! PaPa went flying through the air. Although quite sore, he survived to tell the story to others!
Maybe it is just me but I would think that at age 85 you would slow down a bit! If you’re over 80, do your family, your friends and me a favor and be careful. I’m not suggesting you sit back in a rocking chair but if you’re going to climb a ladder, hike a mountain, run a marathon or participate in any other strenuous activity, then please realize that you are not a teenager any longer and your body may suffer a few aches and pains afterwards.
Unfortunately, too many older Christian adults mistakenly think that they no longer have anything to contribute in serving the Lord. Scripture tells us otherwise in Psalm 92:14-15:
“They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, ‘The LORD is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.’”
The writer is referring to the righteous in these verses. We may have to adjust a few things that we do as we age but we can be certain that there will be many opportunities to serve the Lord up until the time we see Him face to face.
