Strength For the Weary

[ 0 ] September 29, 2008 |

Ahhhhhh, stretch. Okay, excuse me if I yawn. I just got in from Nicaragua and in just a few short days I’ll be heading overseas again. I’ll be traveling to a brand new river, or at least it is for me, in Venezuela.

This is one of those times of the year where I know I am going to end up passing myself coming and going. I’m sure many parents can relate to this feeling now that school is back in session. You’ve got to make sure the kids arrive on time for school and then you rush them to soccer, ballet or some other event after school. In this frenzied state, it is easy to see ourselves going down the road. Do you ever wave to yourself in the van across the street?

I know at times this hurried pace can become overwhelming. I’ll confess there are times when I think, “Lord, I just can’t get up and do this again.” But, then there are those other occasions when I think how exciting and challenging it is for me to minister around the world. It’s during those times that I realize that I had better reach out there and grab a hold of all that I can while the Lord still blesses me with these opportunities.

Today, that is how I feel. Yes, I’m tired and I am sure you are too, but today, let us try to take all the busyness of our lives, embrace it and say, “Thank you Lord for the challenges you place before us.”

If you are feeling a bit weary today, confess that to the Lord then read Isaiah 40:29-31, which says:

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

We must strive to not grow weary in doing good for the Lord. There are times when the Lord will encourage us to rest and be refreshed. But then we must get back out there and serve the Lord and love others with unending fervor, faith and focus upon Christ.
