Submit to Him

Are you a control freak? I learned a valuable lesson about what happens when you try to control too much.

I was on the Napo River in Peru for the first time when I became desperately ill. The crew put my tent on top of the ship and my staff was arguing about who was going to get my pants, my boots, and my knife when I was gone.

Thank goodness, Marcel Telders, affectionately known as “Doc,” the Rivers of the World (ROW) corpsman, kept me alive. My sickness did force me to turn over the expedition to Thomas Webb. I simply had to let go and allow God and Thomas to take care of my friends. They did a superb job.

If you are also a control freak, start this day by saying, “Lord, I give up trying to control it all. You take this day and you do with it what you want and I will rejoice in whatever comes my way.” When we relinquish control of our lives to Christ, we will discover a tremendous amount of peace, strength and enthusiasm for the day.

Christ tells us in Luke 14:27:

“And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.”

When we choose to serve Christ and follow His ways, there is no neutral ground. Either we are serving Him or we are not. We are either submitting to His ways and releasing control of our lives to Him or we are not. Today, choose to give Him your all—your thoughts, your time, your obedience, your plans and every aspect of your life.
