Surpasses Knowledge

[ 2 ] September 2, 2009 |

The kingdom of our Lord is high, wide, deep, long and perfectly joined together. I was just at a social event in North Carolina where a young lady named Julie Anna came up to me and informed me that she listens to me on the radio. She served previously in Africa and told me that she was convinced that God was calling her to the mission field.

I asked the usual questions, such as, “Where did you go in Africa? Who did you see, who do you know, blah, blah, blah.” I had never met this girl before in my life and would you believe it turned out that she is the niece of two dear missionary friends of mine, Frank and Nancy Dimmock. They have served in Malawi and in South Africa.

When Julie Anna said she was with the Dimmocks I nearly fell out of my chair; that is until I remembered that God weaves this whole world together so that Christians are one in His spirit. It is just awesome how God has such wonderful ways to bring His people together!

Do you want to know just how much the Lord loves us? Paul’s prayer to the Ephesians is my prayer for you today and it is found in Ephesians 3:17(b)-19:

“And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledgethat you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”

Christ’s love for us is simply beyond comprehension. We may experience glimpses of it throughout our lives but we will not come to the full understanding of it until we are standing face to face with our Savior.

Since I know Julie Anna and Frank and Nancy Dimmock, I was particularly struct by your devotion for today. I am currently taking a study on the book Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster and reading the chapter on Meditation. Thank you for giving me the verse in Ephesians for my mediation for today. Being an apprentice at mediation, I will copy down this verse and read it through out the day. It is an awesome verse and what I needed for today. Just think – we are rooted in love and have the power to grasp a love that surpasses understanding! It is actually pretty amazing. Thank you.

    Boyd,
I thank the Lord for giving me just the right Scripture that you needed for your day. It is difficult to fathom, yet trully awesome to know that despite the vastness of the universe and the world in which we live, God does orchestrate our lives in such a way that He uses us to be a blessing to fellow Christians near and far.

We may belong to a local body of believers, but I am so thankful to be a part of God’s family of believers.

Praying the Lord’s blessings upon your life, Karin Clack
