Sweeter Than Honey

[ 0 ] July 12, 2009 |

At times when it seems as if life is standing still and nothing appears to be happening that is when I say, “Full steam ahead!” This is a term Rivers of the World (ROW) uses to get the engines up and going on our ships. We say, “Full steam ahead!” and charge on down the river.

Life is changing so very rapidly. Omba Ngandu, one of our program directors in the Democratic Republic (DR) of the Congo, is currently living with his family in Lusambo, located in the Kasai-Oriental Province, or the very center of the country. They are moving to Kinshasa, the capital of the DR of the Congo, located hundreds of miles west of Lusambo. Their plan is to plant a house church and develop the shipping business ROW started using one of our big ships named Mama Mickie.

Omba now has a wireless card in his computer in Kinshasa, which means that I can e-mail him from anywhere in the world and he can receive it from all over the Congo. He even has a satellite phone that enables him to call me wherever he may be in the Congo.

With all the technological advances taking place in our world, life just seems to be moving ahead at such a fast pace. As Christians we need to seize opportunities God gives us to witness and work for Him, we need to enjoy the journey and not focus all our energy upon the destination and always give thanks to the Lord.

Cell phones are great devices to allow us to stay in touch with those closest to us. Computers are great tools to broaden our knowledge and to provide another means of communicating with friends and family. All we really need to sustain us in this life is found in the Word of God. Read Psalm 19:7-11 (Amplified), which says:

“The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the [whole] person; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure and bright, enlightening the eyes. The [reverent] fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even than much fine gold; they are sweeter also than honey and drippings from the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is Your servant warned (reminded, illuminated, and instructed); and in keeping them there is great reward.”

Put simply, scripture has the power to restore individuals; it can provide fulfillment and joy; it can provide knowledge and understanding; it guides, directs and instructs; and is so much sweeter than anything this life has to offer.
