Tame the Tongue
Have you discovered that when you say something good about someone it has a ripple effect and ends up blessing others? The contrary is true as well. If you say something that is not good about someone it will end up getting back to that person and doing nothing but causing pain.
I grew up in Memphis, Tenn. where the Dowdle family ran the best sporting goods business in the world. I now live in north Georgia where I listen on the radio to my friend, Moby, of Moby in the Morning. Moby was talking just the other day on the radio and mentioned that he got great service from my friend Bill Dowdle in Memphis. This comment went in a big circle and I ended up calling Wayne Dowdle, owner of Dowdle Sports, and I said, “I heard about you in north Georgia and I’m going to talk about you now in Georgia so you’ll hear about it in Memphis!”
It is just incredible that someone’s business in Tennessee can be so good that it’s talked about all across the country. I want to encourage you today to find someone who is doing something good, commend that person for it and tell others about it. Do you want to inherit the blessing of spending eternity with Christ? Then I would strongly suggest you read 1 Peter 3:9-10:
“Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For, ‘Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.’”
Filter everything you say through the Holy Spirit. He will give you power to tame your tongue and will let you know when you should keep your thoughts to yourself and when it is wise to speak.
