Teach Me

[ 0 ] October 8, 2006 |

Becky and Melony were part of a team assisting with extreme home makeovers in Guatemala. Their mission was to pour a concrete floor, add a fuel efficient stove and provide a new roof to people’s homes as their way to minister to those in need.

There are plenty of folks who can slop some concrete around, but Becky and Melony were “finishers.” They were skilled labor. As seniors in high school, both of them realized that they were about to be gone on their own. They found Rachel and DaLisa and taught those two freshmen how to finish concrete floors as part of an extreme home makeover mission’s team.

By taking the initiative and training Rachel and DaLisa, Becky and Melony were ensuring that that their skills would be put to use in carrying on the mission of providing extreme home makeovers to people in need. Doesn’t that sound like discipleship?

I want to encourage you today to take the gifts God has given you and pass them on by disciplining other individuals. As Christians, we must humble ourselves and seek instruction from the one true teacher—Jesus Christ.

Before we teach someone else, let us follow David’s request of God in Psalm 25:4-5, which says:

“Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”
