The Living Word of God
Throughout many American homes, you will find at least one Bible on a coffee table, stashed in a bookcase or on a nightstand. Many Christians own several Bibles and freely have access to the Word of God.
During one of my travels to the Democratic Republic of Congo, I visited the small village of Cumbi, Cumbi. In this village, new Christians do not receive a Bible, instead, the local pastor only provides a page from the Word of God. The new converts take the page home, memorize it and bring it back in order to obtain another page of the Bible from the local pastor.
Oftentimes, the more a person has, the less he appreciates what he has. Has the Bible simply become another book in your bookcase? The Bible is revered as sacred and the most important item in many of these remote villages in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
As Christians, we can purchase numerous translations of the Bible from a Christian bookstore, through a catalog or on-line. In many remote areas outside the United States, technology, such as the Internet or even telephones, is not widespread. Modern roads, airports and railroads are often scarce as well. I encourage you to count the number of Bibles you have in your home. If you have more than one Bible, you are very blessed. Consider changing the world for Christ by providing a Bible to those less fortunate. Even better, consider donating financially to a Christian organization so that Bibles can be purchased in the native language of a particular country.
There is no other book that has ever been published, or will ever be published, that can change a man’s heart from the inside out. Paul instructs Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:16 by saying:
“Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Let us take whatever means we have and provide the Living Word of God so that lives are transformed worldwide for Christ. Providing Bibles to people of other cultures is only one way that Rivers of the World is influencing lives for Jesus. To find out more, visit www.row.org.
