Think Before You Speak

[ 0 ] April 5, 2006 |

I took part in an interesting parade recently while touring the Wonju Christian Hospital in the province of Kangwon, located in central Korea. Taking part in this parade were nurses, interns, physicians and even the medical director of the hospital. The parade of people followed behind me as we went from floor to floor.

It is a very beautiful facility. Our tour led us to the audiology department where a young nurse was teaching a child who could neither hear nor speak how to communicate. The little boy learned to talk by feeling the vibrations in his throat. He stood before me and said, “How you doing preacher?”

The little boy then started crying, the nurse cried, I cried and we all wept together in hearing him communicate. This was a powerful moment. Don’t you wish we all could take the time to think about every single word before we speak?

We are warned in Matthew 12:36-37:

“But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

I encourage you today to make a conscience effort to use your words in such a way that it brings honor and glory to the Lord. Make it a point to speak words of encouragement, hope and love to everyone whom you meet today.
