Time Is on Our Side
We sat by the Congo River for almost an hour without saying a word to each other. One of Rivers of the World’s (ROW) Congo directors, Omba Ngandu, sat with me next to the famous Stanley Pool, now called Pool Malebo. The pool is a large lake-like structure at the lower reaches of the Congo River.
We had been talking about the presence of China and radical Islam increasing in the heart of Africa. We spoke about the economy in America and Africa and of the spiritual issues that face both of our worlds. Finally, Omba broke the silence by putting everything into perspective by saying, “You know, until the Lord comes back, time is on our side.”
His statement sure relieves some of my American impatience for change. It also gave me a sense of hope with the realization that time is on our side in dealing with each other, with our family members and with other folks in our lives whom we love. We must not grow complacent, but we also must not feel like we have to accomplish everything right this very moment.
Despite what false prophets might say of Christ’s return, Jesus tells us in Mark 13:32-33 (NKJV):
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is.”
Until Christ returns, time is on our side. Each day that we are given is another opportunity for us to spend time with the Lord, to pray for someone in need, to grow in our faith and to lead someone to the saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior.
