To Know Him More
Do you ever have trouble focusing on things? Recently, I literally had trouble focusing on things. I got frustrated because I couldn’t find my glasses, which of course made it difficult to focus and see. I realize it is just a matter of age and I am certain I will eventually find my glasses!
In the meantime, let me remind you about my friend, Allison Carlson, who founded the organization called An Open Chair, Inc., based in Virginia. She helps people spiritually focus on their prayer lives and their relationship with the Lord by offering tiny white chairs that say, “Be still and know.” Parents have bought these chairs to sit beside the bed of their little children as an assurance that God is watching over them as they sleep. Some folks have purchased a chair for a friend recently diagnosed with cancer as a gentle reminder that God is still in control. You can even purchase the little chair and place it on your dash in the car to remind you that wherever you go, God is always with you.
These little chairs are a great way to focus your spiritual energy and thoughts. It’s a tangible way to look at an object and be reminded that God is all-knowing, all-powerful and He is everywhere, no matter where we might be.
Let me invite you to stop by An Open Chair, Inc. at www.anopenchair.com. On the homepage you can read about how this non-profit organization is helping Rivers of the World (ROW) feed our 30 children in the orphanage in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
We all go through times in our lives where we feel as if we are invisible and that nobody seems to care about our struggles. King David endured many disappointments, failures and heartaches, yet he maintained his focus upon God. David wrote in Psalm 139:1-4:
“O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.”
No matter how close you may be to your spouse, your friends or family, there is no one who knows you better than God. Seek today to know Him more and praise Him today if for no other reason than simply for who He is.
