Understanding the Truth
What was the toughest thing you have ever had to learn? Was it reading, writing or arithmetic? For most of us, the most difficult lessons we have learned were not in the classroom at school, but instead, they were in the “classroom” of life.
I want to tell you about some men and women who are trying to learn some very difficult lessons. They are trying to comprehend the joy of freedom and they are trying to understand the complexities of democracy. These men and women serve in the Army of Iraq. For many of these women it is a challenge and quite a miracle for them to serve in these predominately male occupations.
Imagine being in a cage for 20 years and then being set free and trying to understand a new life. These men and women have a lot to learn but they are beginning to understand what it means to be free.
Today, I want to ask you to pray for the men and women who serve in the Army of Iraq. No, they are not Christians, they are Islamic, but it is not about them, it is about you. Although these Iraqi men and women are learning freedom through democracy, they are still bound by their religion. We have an obligation as Christians to share the truth, which is Jesus Christ.
In John 8:31-32, Jesus spoke to the Jews who believed Him and said:
“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
As disciples of Christ, let us today share the truth with others and help them to understand how they can truly be set free from bondage.
