Who Is Your Master?
We are already nearly two weeks into 2010 and it is time to decide something very basic. This year I want you to decide something that was first penned by Bob Dylan after he became a born-again Christian in the late 1970’s. In the song, “Gotta Serve Somebody,” Dylan wrote, “Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord, but you’re gonna have to serve somebody.”
As for my family and me, we’re adhering to Joshua 24:15:
“But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”
When Joshua was nearing his death, he summoned the people together to encourage them and to remind them of all that God had done throughout the generations. After summarizing God’s numerous blessings, Joshua told the people to fear the Lord and to serve Him with all faithfulness. Joshua made it very clear that he and his family would serve the Lord.
Let’s consciously make that declaration this year to serve God, our family, friends, co-workers and even strangers. Create a pact with your spouse, children and immediate family to follow the Lord and serve Him no matter what happens this year. When we come before the Lord in total submission, having no agenda but to serve Him, we put ourselves in a position where the Lord can use us for His glory and we become witnesses to miracles in our lives.
