Wisdom Is Priceless
Some of my friends in Oregon have an interesting saying. When they’re upset about something they say, “It snaps my twig.” Well, I can tell you that I have had my twig snapped! I just got a letter from one of my credit card companies informing me that due to the difficult economic times, they are going to raise my interest rates.
I have come up with a great solution. Since times are difficult all over the world, I want you to raise your rate of interest in people who are hurting. I also want to encourage you this year to develop the habit of spending less and giving more. It only takes a few seconds of watching the nightly news to get a glimpse of all the tragedy around the world. Instead of swiping your credit card for unnecessary purchases and paying ever increasing interest rates, consider the fact that all the money you have was provided by God and He has merely allowed you the privilege of investing it wisely.
Solomon was very familiar with wealth and possessions and he understood how both were meaningless. For a good perspective on how we should view money, read Ecclesiastes 7:12:
“Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: that wisdom preserves the life of its possessor.”
Do you possess money or does it possess you? God graciously gives us the financial resources that we need to survive. He expects us to give back to Him first and then to use wisdom in managing the rest of the money He provides. Today, choose those things that will have eternal value, like wisdom, which is priceless.
YOu go, Ben
