Wise Stewards
When you hear the term, “stepping out on faith,” what does it mean to you? It can mean a lot of different things to many people. Let me share with you what it means to me.
The engine on Rivers of the World’s (ROW) largest ship, the Mama Mickie, recently blew up. Add to that, the orphanage in the Dominican Republic still needs to be completed in order to house 100 children who are in desperate need. Just these two projects alone total nearly $300,000.
So how do we define faith? Faith for us was making the decision to retrieve our savings and gather up every spare penny we had and sending it all to the mission field. We did this in the belief that it is more important to accomplish the tasks at hand than to have a little comfortable padding in our bank account. However, we still need your help.
The Mama Mickie delivers food and supplies along a 1,600-mile route on the Congo River. Omba Ngandu, ROW Congo program director, preaches at night on this ship along the river. People are counting on us to meet their physical and spiritual needs.
Helping ROW to complete the orphanage in the Dominican Republic will enable us to get 100 children off the streets and into a loving home where they will be provided nourishment for their body, mind and spirit.
We serve a very strategic God who expects His servants to use the resources they have wisely. In Matthew 25:16-17 we read a parable from Jesus on what it means to be wise stewards:
“The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. So also, the one with the two talents gained two more.”
Too often we focus upon what we are lacking instead of being content with what Christ has given us and taking that and multiplying it for His honor and glory. Take an inventory today of your financial resources, your talents, the amount of free time you have, etc. and choose to invest what you have for the Kingdom.
