Words and Actions
Have you ever noticed how many words there are that subconsciously give us a sense of peace, fulfillment or completion. Words like love, forgiveness, serenity and hope. There is a family in Honduras battling HIV with no husband, no job and no prospect for much in life. The word that touched their heart was simple—home.
Many volunteers came together, traveled to Honduras and built a home for an HIV-infected single mother and her son. After teaching her how to sew, she was equipped with a sewing machine. Armed with a new skill, these volunteers assisted the mother in acquiring a job. The child is in school and they are both doing fine on their medication.
These volunteers provided more than a home, a sewing machine and a job. They gave this family a second chance at life. For this, I say thank you in the name of Jesus.
Have you ever really considered that your actions toward others, both good and bad, are actually actions toward God? We read a glimpse of this in Proverbs 19:17 (NCV):
“Being kind to the poor is like lending to the Lord; he will reward you for what you have done.”
If we profess to be a Christian and are insensitive toward someone, that person will instinctively question the character of God based upon our actions. Likewise, if we give food to the poor, clothe the needy and provide medicine to the sick, these people will see God as loving, kind and compassionate. Examine your words and actions today and decide if they are a direct reflection of the personality of Christ.
