Your Most Treasured Possession
In many homes, there are trinkets stuffed in an attic, collectibles buried in a safe place and treasures stored for safekeeping. In my office, I have a collection of compasses, some that date back to 1812. Through the years, these compasses have been collected from about a dozen different countries. No matter how old or how new the compass is, if you line them all up they all do the same thing…point to magnetic north.
In addition to the compasses, I have an interesting collection of Bibles. This collection contains Bibles written in French, German, Latin, Spanish, Hebrew, Greek, English and even a native African language. If you line these Bibles up they all point in the same direction as well…to Jesus Christ.
The next time you are sitting at home, look around you and notice the things you collect. What are your prized possessions? Do your possessions draw you closer in a relationship with Christ or do they occupy your time, absorb your money and take control of your thoughts in such a way that your possessions pull you further away from Christ?
As the children of Israel were wandering in the wilderness, they were reminded by Moses how valuable they were in the eyes of God. In Deuteronomy 6, it says in part:
“For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.”
God sent His son so that all people may be set free from a life of sin. We are still His treasured possession. The question is, “Is God our most treasured possession?”
